School Aims and Ethos
OUR SCHOOL AIMS ARE:
To foster the spiritual, moral and educational development of all our children within the context of the Christian faith, whilst developing a positive self image within each child, ensuring that all pupils reach their potential.
To provide a broad and relevant curriculum in line with the National Curriculum requirements whilst considering Special Needs of some individuals - in order that the children may develop the necessary skills to function in an ever changing world.
To provide a caring and richly stimulating environment, in which all children feel secure and which celebrates both effort and achievement.
To provide a well-organised learning environment which allows the children to make independent, informed decisions and encourages a positive attitude towards learning, responsibility and self-discipline.
To acknowledge the value of a positive relationship between school and home and strengthen the involvement of 'Parents' in their child's education and the life of the school.
To foster links with the community, in particular St. John's Church in order to form partnerships that enrich school life and encourage all children to develop co-operation and respect for others.

ETHOS STATEMENT
" At St. John's we work together, care for each other and achieve success."
Currently we have 99 children on roll.
We promote a caring learning environment in which each child is treated as an individual. One of the advantages of a small school is that each member of staff knows all the children and vice versa. Likewise, most of the children know each other too. You will, therefore, find that our school has a lovely family atmosphere.
The school day begins at 8:55am and ends at 3:15pm. All our classes are taught Literacy and Numeracy in the mornings and it is vital, therefore, that your child arrives at school on time.
Regular attendance is crucial to your child's development. Should it be necessary for your child to be absent from school, we ask that you telephone school on 0161 790 2195 to report your child's absence and to confirm this, in writing, to your child's teacher on the first day back. Our attendance rate for the year 2005-2006 is 94.6%.
If it is necessary for you to take your child out of school during term time, please complete a request form (available from outside the school office) and return it to Mr. George, providing as much notice as possible. Applications should not exceed 10 days in an academic year. A reply will be forwarded as soon as possible.
We are a Church of England Aided School and we have strong links with St. John's Church , Mosley Common.

Y3/4 use DeBono's thinking hats in most areas of the curriculum. Most recently we have used them to help us think about our school dining hall. What we like, don't like and ideas to make it better. We will put our ideas and suggestions to the School Counc

Year 2 have been taking part in self assessment where the pupils decide if they have achieved the learning objective. The green tray is for achieved, the yellow tray is for nearly there and the red tray is for I need more practise.
