Reception

WELCOME TO THE RECEPTION CLASS

 

Being the class teacher I am delighted to invite you to our page on the wesite and explain some more about our class and what we learn.

 

Throughout the year, as well as learning our numbers,  letters, words, the beginnings of reading and writing and counting we also have many fun and interesting topics.

 

In the winter term, up to Christmas we learn about our own body changes in science... we bake biscuits in design and technology... we draw and paint pictures of ourselves in art & creative development... we learn about my home and my school in geography... we dance and play games in P.E. and in PSHE+C we learn about new beginnings, anti bullying and how to get on with each other and what to do if we fall out!

 

During the spring term up to Easter we learn about how things grow in science... we make a mothers day card and an easter basket in design & technology... we visit the local farm for geography... we learn about new life and easter in R.E and our role play area is a baby clinic and a farm shop.

 

Finally in the summer term up to the end of the school year we look at animals and materials in science... we sail boats and make jelly & ice lollies in design and technology... we look at water features in geography... we learn about Noahs ark in R.E. and in PSHE+C we learn about changes and relationships. 

 

 

 

A SPELLING GAME TO HELP YOUR CHILD...

 

'BLEND RUMMY'

 

For 2 players.

 

To make

 

1) Cut out pictures of objects starting with initial blends, from magasines or old catalogues. You will need at least 4 pictures for each initial blend. Eg, clown, clock, cloud, clothes... and at leat 4 different blends to play with - making at least 16 pictues in total.

 

2) Paste these onto the playing card blanks provided (print out attachment)

 

To play

 

1) Deal 4 cards to each player, placing the rest in a pile.

 

2) The aim is to collect a family of 4 pictures, all beginning with the same initial blend.

 

3) Players should take turns to pick up / discard new pictures trying to build up their own set.

 

4) The winner is the first player to complete her family of 4 initial blend pictures correctly.
