Sarah Dunn

Hello, I am Sarah Dunn the nursery manager of St John Nursery, BC and ASC clubs. I have been working in the childcare industry for 25+ years. I am passionate about delivering good quality childcare. I provide an environment rich in ‘awe and wonder’ and have a real passion teaching the children the importance of protecting the planet and looking at sustainability through growing fruit and vegetables in our ‘mini allotment’ and recycling as much as possible.

I am also the nursery SENDCO. So if you are worried about your child not developing as he/she should, please speak to me and I can help you. At BC & ASC I provide a relaxed atmosphere where children self-serve their own breakfast and tea and feel that my wraparound provision is here to help and support children be ready for learning and play when the school day is done.

Ruth Lanham

Hello, I am Ruth Lanham, and I am the Deputy Manager of St John Nursery, Breakfast Club (BC) and After School Club (ASC). I have been working in education since 2011 being a fully qualified teacher. Throughout that time, I have worked with ages from 3 – 11 years old. I am very enthusiastic about delivering excellent care to children of all ages.

At the nursery, I am the Pre School room lead, and we are providing an environment which is rich in communication opportunities, an emphasis on physical development and the importance of self-regulation. I have a real passion for the Early Years and the importance of teaching prewriting, early reading, and numeracy skills to ensure a good start as they enter school. I provide an environment which is inclusive for all and provide additional support for those who need it.

At BC & ASC I provide a relaxed atmosphere where children have a choice of activities, an extension of the activities we provide at Nursery, plus a range of older children's activities. This is an opportunity for the children to be prepared for the start of their school day and wind down when their day ends.

The pre-school nursery is open from 9am until 3-00pm Monday to Friday during the school year. Children are entitled to 15 hours of free nursery education from the term after their third birthday other session can be paid for. Parents have a choice as to how their child can access the 15 funded hours. Details of this can be obtained from the nursery manager.

Children who stay for the whole nursery day can purchase a school meal or bring along a packed lunch. Packed lunches are stored in our larder fridge to ensure food safety.

The pre-school is staffed by qualified practitioners (see below) All practitioners hold Level 3 Early Years Care and Education qualifications. The Manager and Deputy Manager hold early years Degree level qualifications and Early Years Professional Status.

Staff hold Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, Basic Food Hygiene and Basic Health and Safety awards.

The setting has been awarded:

  • Healthy Business Status
  • ‘Smile for Health’ Award
  • ‘Breastfeeding Friendly’ Award
  • The ‘Confident and Clean’ Award
  • Environmental Health Food Hygiene level 5 award

Introduction to the Pre-School Setting

Places can be applied for by contacting the setting telephone number 0161 790 2195 option 2, or by calling into the setting. A registration of interest form should be completed and this will be kept on file until nearer to your child’s third birthday. Parents will be contacted at that time and induction sessions will be arranged in order for your child to become familiar with the setting, the adults and routines before their start date. Practitioners plan for the needs of individual children and provide purposeful activities to enhance learning. The Pre-School follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Every child is a unique individual and a competent learner from birth. Our vision is to enhance that uniqueness and enable each child to become resilient, capable, confident and self assured.

The nursery provision enables children to access learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors.

Nursery has an open door policy. If you wish to view the setting please call us on 01617902195 option 2 to arrange a visit.

What to Bring

On your child’s first day in the Pre-School setting it is recommended that during summer months you bring in sun cream and sun hat labelled with your child’s name.

Please dress your child in appropriate comfortable and manageable clothing. This encourages independence when getting ready to go outside.

Please also send your child in suitable footwear and a coat. Please could we ask that you do not send your child in wearing jewellery.

Lunch Boxes

As we encourage healthy eating we ask that you do not send chocolate bars, sweets etc... into the nursery in your child’s lunchbox. Information and ideas regarding healthy lunchboxes can be obtained from the manager.
