Welcome to Year 6! We are ‘Swans’ and Mrs Bush is our class teacher. As the oldest children in school, we take on lots of roles and responsibilities; we are chosen to be Head Boy/Girl, sports councillors and house captains. We love to help out around school and are fantastic role models to the younger children.

Mrs Mayoh works with us throughout the week to support our learning.

Our day is packed full of learning! A typical day in Swans starts with handwriting or arithmetic before worship and then we move on to Guided Reading. We then do our Maths and then English (including Spelling and Grammar). Our afternoons vary and include PE, Music, Art, DT, Topic, Computing, RE, French and Science.

Some of our topics in Year 6 include The United States of America, The British Empire and an Ancient Chinese mystery! We really enjoy Computing, too, where we create our own apps and animations using new software. Our English and Maths lessons are very busy and we enjoy learning at a fast pace in order to practise and prepare for SATs in May.

In Year 6, we spend three days at a residential where we make memories we will cherish forever! We also put on an end-of-year production to celebrate our wonderful years at St. John’s.

St. John’s holds an open door policy. If you would like to visit our Year 6 class please contact the school office on 0161 790 2195 and we will be happy to arrange a visit for you.
